The Bank

TheBankExteriorIn November 2005, the closure of the only bank in Neilston was announced. After an unsuccessful community campaign against the closure, the community decided to invoke the Community Right to Buy provision of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. The process of buying the building was long and arduous and included a three-day ballot of the local community. 1100 people voted with 97% in favour of the purchase.

The Bank was purchased by NDT, on behalf of the community, in 2006. The building then operated as a home for the Trust and for a range of community activities until 2010 when sufficient monies were raised to undertake a major refurbishment of the building. The Bank reopened in late 2011 with significantly enhanced facilities including a café space, meeting rooms, office and gardens.

In addition to being the home to NDT, the Bank operates a café five days a week and is host to a wide range of services and activities. The Bank is available for hire for meetings, events and hot-desking.
